Twitter finally announced in a blog post its official support for Japanese hashtags.
Hashtags are used to mark keywords or topics in a tweet. By adding the # symbol before a word, it automatically creates a link to search results for that keyword to help users find tweets about the same topic.
# Jishin tweet about the earthquakes to be added to the hash tag
# setsuden hash tag to be attached to tweet about the power savings
# coolbiz hash tag to be attached to tweet about the Cool Biz
Previously hashtags, but was not able to use only alphanumeric characters, hiragana hashtags today, Katakana, Kanji, Cyrillic, and Hangul (the alphabet used in Russian) to be able to use the now. This will allow the Japanese use the hash tag like this: instead of the hash tag above. more at Twitter Blog
